Domestic Violence, TED Talk: Leslie Morgan Steiner: Why domestic violence victims don't leave

Leslie Morgan Steiner was in "crazy love" -- that is, madly in love with a man who routinely abused her and threatened her life. Steiner tells the dark story of her relationship, correcting misconceptions many people hold about victims of domestic violence, and explaining how we can all help break the silence.

The most common question asked, “Why does she stay?”

Are you in "a psychological trap disguised as love?"

This or my story -- may be even your story.

"I don’t look like a typical domestic violence survivor."

My first message is that domestic violence happens to everyone, all age groups, all cultures.
Over 85% of abusers are men; domestic abuse only happens in intimate interdependent long term relationships; in other words: in families. The last place you would expect to have violence.
